Dostana was Karan Johar’s only film in 2008. No regrets to him as it turned a box office
hit. But this Dostana as it stands for friendship, made a big change in Karan Johar’s life too.
His God Father Yash Chopra decided, soon after the Dostana tie-up, that he would break-up with Karan’s Dharma productions. While there are many theories to this NO from Yash camp, Karan was humble or rather diplomatic in saying “Yash Raj is like my father and Aditya is my brother and best friend”.
So, the man who pushed Karan Johar one place down in the recent Filmfare power list, Ronnie Screwvala is now Karan’s distributor.
Thus, UTV will now work for Dharma Productions and thus Karan’s two present ventures “Wake Up Sid” starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma and another one starring Saif, Kareena and Vivek Oberoi will not be distributed by Yash Raj.
