Ghajini Movie Review – Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiah Khan thumbnail

The remake attempt of Aamir Khan has proved to be a success. Whether it is the aggressive promotion or efforts of the same crew that brought out earlier blockbuster in Tamil or Aamir’s eight pack attempt to satisfy his fans after other heroes have accomplished the feat or Asin’s domination in the first part of the film as the focal point of success is something difficult to infer.

The film has all its energy spent during the time between Aamir’s (as Sanjay Singhania) meeting the aspiring model Asin (as Kalpana) and his wealthy ways of wining her heart. There is perfect resonance with the audience and the tonic seems to be enough to take them through the remaining part of the film. Yes, it is not for all. If one wants to pick the violence or the pain of a lost lover or the body built personality, the audience can pick one of the characters and live with that for the remaining part of the film.

We have come across many characters with loss of memory due to sudden impact on head and the story of regaining the same. But, in the lines of Christopher Nolan’s English flick, Memento, in Ghajini, the memory loss has been portrayed in a different manner (let me call it Anterograde Amnesia) with certain time set. So, the hero has 15 minutes, as if given by God with certain assurance and he has to carryout all his chores in that moment as if he is destined to do so. Having understood this phenomenon, he ensures his needs are properly recorded wherever possible and the best attraction is his own hugely built body. Yes, the name of the animal that killed his lover is tattooed on his body to remind him when needed. What a way! Do not see the concept, just see how it is done.

In general, the truth is, the Aamir’s fans are not used to seeing him in violent moods leave alone violent actions. So, for Aamir to convince his fans with his new, rather renewed approach is something that needs a kind of more efforts, let us call it Herculean. But, did he do justice to it? A soft business man with world under his feet falls for a girl trying to make her both ends meet. The girl, a social minded, helping some destitute children falls prey to an illegal racket and loses her life in front of her lover, Aamir. Her debut film in Hindi, has surely earned herself a place and it is not surprising to note other leading heroes’ keen interest to do films with her. Having already played this role earlier in Tamil, her job has become a child’s play with her inborn talent.

Jiah Khan’s role is overshadowed by the lead actress and Pradeep Rawat, the villain looks to be a compulsory element. It is just Aamir and Asin, no one else. Yes, the director Murugadoss is visible with the success given second time with same subject.

Ravi K Chandran is the cinematographer who has played his tricks once more much to the appreciation of everyone. Yet another visible talent indeed!

It is something the fans of Aamir have to reconcile with. If they desire to continue to see him as some kind of sober, lover boy or even as a very sensible man next door, then they may have to send a message that Aamir should not propagate violence as the result of any disappointments. These apart, it is Aamir’s bold attempt to portray himself in different getup far from his image has certainly paid rich dividends. Thanks to the tireless promotional events.

Lastly, does it need any words to comment on capability of A.R. Rahman?
