India’s Mozart A R Rahman today turned 43 who has been nominated for 66th Golden Globe Awards that would be taking place in California in the US on January 11, 2009. British director Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won four nominations of which AR Rahman was nominated for Best Original Music Score and the rest being Best Screenplay, Best Picture-Drama and Best Director.
Called as A S Dileep Kumar, Rahman was born in Chennai. His father Sekhar is also a music composer in Malayalam movie industry. Rahman started his career at the age of 11 as a keyboard player in the troupe of yet another music maestro in Tamil Cinema, Ilayaraja. Initially he used to compose jingles for the ads. He made his debut in music with Mani Ratnam’s ‘Roja’ and changed the music trend. With tremendous charbusters to his credit in Tamil A R Rahman was titled as ‘Mozart of Madras’. He was married to a girl called Saira Banu from a traditional muslim family and the couple is blessed with three children.
A R Rahman made a grand entry with the block buster film ‘Ramgeela’, and became a threat to other music directors with his commendable work in ‘Dil Se’, Taal, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Swades’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Rang De Basanthi’ and many more. His dream is to win an Oscar for his song ‘Jai Ho’ and the music score in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
