Multiplexes under threat as film producers turn extortionists, distributors too are not saints

When it comes to money, the more one has, the more one wants.

When the viewers were suffering with torn seats, inadequate facilities, improper equipments, lack of car parking facilities, an innovative idea, whether fetched from overseas does not matter, came to some able businessmen, who thought of providing better facilities to the movie-goers and thereby make some money.

It became a hit luring the bigwigs like Reliance to plunge into the business with more than 100 screens to their credit now.

It will not be tolerated if one lives peacefully. The greedy producers who already sell their products at their will have now found a way to fill in their coffers in a better way. They are not able to tolerate the miltiplexes earning some 25% from the snack bar, 15% from the car park, 8% from inhouse advt apart from some sops from the government. So, they, the Film Producers Guild represented by Mahesh Bhatt, claim a minimum of 50% of the ticket collection from the Multiplexes.

Even the distributors are not happy. They, represented by Ramesh Sippy, threaten to stop the distribution of the movies to these Multiplexes from April 3rd if the dispute is not resolved.

Where these producers and distributors were when the viewers were suffering with inadequate facilities? Did they ever attempt to provide any better facilities? If there were some earlier understandings, the stand of the producers and distributors at this juncture does strike similarity with that of extortionists, who suck money at gunpoint.

Yes, greed does not have limits.

Well! This also does not justify the Multiplexes charging exorbitant rates for the products sold at their premises. Their looting too needs to be addressed. All said and done, it is the public who pay the premium and silently suffer when the bigwigs fight for percentages.
