The name and fame did not help the Slumdog Millionaire to fill in its coffers from the collections in India. While the Golden Globe gave its much desired publicity, it is a million dollar question as to why Danny Boyle and team did not insist on its release in India earlier than planned.
Will the country that boasts a population of 1 billion be quiet seeing the astronomical levels of publicity a movie got? Added to that the local bodies and prominent personalities have also provided enough publicity with their comments on the film, thus making it talk of the town.
All these would certainly increase the curiosity and the interested ones did not wait. In these days we are well aware that the improvements in electronics have shrunk the world. If the movie is available in the US, it is just matter of uploading there and downloading here in India. So, many interested ones have already seen the movie by the time it hit the theaters in India. What a pity? Not mention of the pirated CDs which spread like a virus.
So, the much talked about movie ultimately released the figures of Rs 215mil as the collections in India against the USD 100mil collected worldwide. Not an impressive figure compared to the ration of Ghajini’s collections. They could have done better.
