The story of a child who was born on the midnight of 15th of Aug 1947 was captured by Salman Rushdie in a character he created as Saleem Sinai. He follows through from the birth on independence day till the end of emergency in 1977.

It was a great fiction by Salman Rushdie aptly titled Midnight’s Children. This story fell in the eyes of Deepa Mehta who claims to have been so impressed in 1980 itself about the novel. But it seems that it was late in 2000 that she decided to make a film on the book.

Now, Deepa is not satisfied with just making the film, but she also wants to test the acting abilities of the playboy, Salman Rushdie. So, heeding to the humble love by Mehta, Salman Rushdie has decided to play a soothsayer in the film.

So, we will have a chance to see Rushdie in action who was recently in the news for his playboy roles with different girls in different nightclubs in Mumbai.

Today is Slumdog’s day. So, let us bring you yet another news. The man in Ayatullah Khomeini’s hit list, Salman Rushdie, today spoke to a section of people in the US about the movie.

He, while addressing a gathering at Emory University, Atlanta, mentioned that that the movie contained a “pile of impossibility”. He complained about several scenes portraying much impossibility. He was specific about the boy’s jumping into a kind of filth and the characters surfacing at the Taj Mahal which is hundreds of miles away from the previous scene. He did not spare even other Oscar winners who adapted the stories form “The Reader” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.

This author of “Satanic Verses” today played a devil’s advocate.
