Violation of Human Rights – Case against Anil Kapoor and AR Rahman

Slum dwellers joint action committee is a body which has not been known to the public till it has come out with a defamation case against music director AR Rahman and Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor.

The allegation is that the title of film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ conveys that the slum dwellers as dogs. The General Secretary of the Committee Tapeshwar Vishwa Karma filed the case with a Mumbai chief judicial magistrate, Raghvendra Kumar Singh alleging that such an act was a violation of human rights and honour. He also said that he had already approached the national and state human rights commission for necessary action against AR Rahman and Anil Kapoor who have participated in making of the film.

The hearing for this case has been fixed as February 5th 2009 in which the chief judicial magistrate directed the general secretary to produce proper evidence in support of his complaint.
